ocean and truth.

By the fountain's brink.

A swan is white

Sailing in the light.

What is yellow? Pears are yellow,

Rich and ripe and mellow.

With small flowers between.

What is violet? Clouds

In the summer twilight.

What is orange? Why,

an orange,

Just an orange!

Light

- Francis W. Bourdillon

The night has a thousand eyes,

The day but one;

Yet the light of the bright world dies

With the dying sun.

The mind has a thousand eyes,

And the heart but one;

Yet the light of a whole life dies

When its love is done.

I have long hair

A fair try to deliver the meaning but you've lost the Sinhalese way of poetic effect. That is very clear in the last two lines. Language has its own patterns of expressions, style, tone, rhythm , idioms, culture-bound concepts etc. A good poem could never be felt in any other language. That is my opinion. When you try to convey the meaning segment of it you'd miss the poetic spirit of it. After all the original poet could never had thought of his poem wold be translated by another poet of a strange culture.

You've tried to convey the meaning of the poem by dissecting some lines and by manipulating the meaning of some terms. It's a good effort. Yet, the smell of the original poem is not appreciated in the translated version. It's a hard task. Your attempt will only create enthusiasm among readers to understand the meaning of a foreign poet. Poetry, what's lost in the translation.
